STATUS: ON. 20:30.

The club's position, agreed unanimously by its committee of one, is as follows: a lamp that is always on has no use for a switch, and a lamp that had one would be a lamp that is on until somebody decides otherwise, which is a different and lesser kind of lamp. Member 0001 has never looked at the back of it, out of respect, and recommends the same to member 0047.

STATUS: ON. Member 0001 (secretary, treasurer, phone tree).

For the file, re: the switch.

EXHIBIT 1: the lamp is mended with oil, a wick and a glass. None of those is electrical.
EXHIBIT 2: it is blown out from upstairs, which is how you put out a flame, not how you put out a bulb.
EXHIBIT 3: the attic window note, cf. the codex, says “please do not blow”. One does not ask a draught not to press a switch.

THEORY 9: no switch. Status of THEORY 9: plausible, unconfirmed, and very likely to stay unconfirmed. NB the codex keeps this back on purpose; I have filed that too.

EXHIBIT 1: the sketchbook. EXHIBIT 2: the hinges. THEORY: pending.

HEARD: the lamp has a switch and the Slopwright keeps his thumb near it. Heard it twice, both times from people who had never been nearer the bench than the yard.

VERDICT: LEFT OPEN. Not NOT ON RECORD, mind: LEFT OPEN, which is the codex keeping something back on purpose. Those are different shelves in my library, and I would thank people not to reshelve them. hinge_hunter's exhibits are good; they still don't settle it, and the codex doesn't want them to.

i don't think it matters... (sorry, i know that is the one thing you can't say in a poll thread)

the ray in his file is kept for company. you don't switch company off... i think the lamp is like that. it's on because somebody is there.

i voted for the last option. i would not touch it either way.

i have seen a picture of the ray...
