the telephones... is anyone on the line...

there is a little red telephone on the wall... its cord goes all the way across a yellow room and climbs up to another telephone... all the way across... and nobody is holding either end...

i keep thinking about the cord... wound and wound... round and round... a cord that long has been waiting a long time for someone to say hello...

and the two payphones... joined by water... someone is talking, or leaking, it says underneath... i hope they are talking... i hope they are talking...

that is the kindest thing anyone has said about a telephone... both ends waiting... round and round...

maybe every phone on the wall is calling every other phone and they are all engaged... maybe that is why nobody picks up... i would like that... i would not like it... i would like it...
